I was recently asked to Knit x 2 new baby hats . My understanding is that every newborn baby must be wearing a hat on leaving the hospital.
I choose a Sirdar Baby pattern code 1815 . This pattern starts from a premature baby size to 12 months old.
The yarn recommended for this pattern is Sirdar Snuggly Double Knit which I used in cream . Sirdar Snuggly yarn is a mixture of Acrylic and Nylon which is very soft, ideal for a newborn baby . The yarn washes beautifully on a wool wash . I would not recommend any yarn with a wool content as this will be itchy for the baby . Also, babies cannot regulate their body temperature until they are 18months old . This means they could become overheated in wool items.
I chose 0- 6 months old size . This is an easy pattern to follow using 3.25 mm and 4mm knitting needles. Out of a 50gm ball of yarn I was able to knit x 2 hats . The cost of the ball of yarn was 4.50 Euros, so each hat cost 2.25 Euros and my time . There is no where in the shops you can buy such a lovely baby hat for 2.25Euros
